life as i know it...
| christmas movies |

it's a wonderful life.
there, i've gotten it out of the way. in my opinion, it's the best holiday movie ever made. but, okay, i admit it. i think it's the best movie ever made. so, i'm biased.

there are so many holiday movies out there, to pick out only a few would be a tall order. christmas movies are like collectibles to me. you can never have too many.

and since i never tire of them, they seem to be the perfect gift to give me. not a christmas goes by that doesn't find at least one new offering beneath my tree. so, if you're looking to get into the holiday spirit, most of these movies will inspire even the scroogiest among us!

the christmas movie list

olive, the other reindeer -- one of my all-time favorite christmas movies. there's not much more i can say. love the animation (by the folks that do the simpsons), love martini the penguin and i think drew barrymore is outstanding as olive! catchy tunes you'll find yourself humming while you're doing your holiday shopping, it's a definite quick pick-me-up when you're wrapping gifts or decorating the tree!

it's a wonderful life -- really. what else needs to be said? perfect jimmy stewart. despair turned to joy. lots of love throughout. there are points in the movie that make me cry just because i know what's coming. what's better than that?!

a charlie brown christmas -- "christmastime is here..." the peanuts gang and their perfect little oval mouths caroling...it's one of the brightest signs that christmastime truly is here.

the polar express -- one of the best holiday movies to come around in a long time. optimism and joy are the centerpiece of this beautifully animated movie, narrated by tom hanks. already considered a holiday classic in my movie library, i highly recommend it if you need a good dose of believing!

the christmas secret -- beau bridges plays a wonderful st. nick, and richard thomas becomes a true believer in this magical holiday story.

miracle on 34th street -- a movie where i can see my beloved new york and confirm that there really is a santa claus. grab a cup of cocoa and get comfy on the couch. you'll be smiling at the end - so don't say i didn't warn you!

white christmas -- seeing bing crosby and danny kaye in this quintessential holiday classic certainly signifies that christmas is right around the corner. add it to your holiday movie library, but don't by any means, get the remastered 'vista-vision' edition put out in 2007 -- it costs more and it doesn't look any better!

a christmas wish (aka the great rupert) -- alright, i admit this is one of the most dreadful movies ever made. it stars jimmy durante and a dancing squirrel. i wouldn't kid you on this - i take my holiday movies very seriously. one of the classic lines uttered in this timeless classic is "it's not easy being a human pyramid." honest. i couldn't make this stuff up if i tried.

a christmas story -- who hasn't seen this perfect holiday movie about ralphie and his quest for a daisy red ryder bb gun? heartwarming and true-to-life this terrific movie - and some great performances - make this a must for everyone's holiday movie library!

elf -- i'm not usually a will ferrell fan, but he's quite delightful in this holiday story about a young orphan child raised by elves in the north pole, who discovers as an adult that he's not really an elf and journeys to nyc to discover his true identity. a fun movie for both kids and adults, it's a great choice for family movie night!

fallen angel -- i'm one of those folks who weeps during the 60-second hallmark commercials, so it should come as no surprise that i often choose to watch sappy, tug-at-the-heartstrings hallmark-type made-for-television movies. and i thoroughly enjoy them! so, if you're in the mood for a good, predictable holiday movie, and some beautiful wintry scenes, give this movie a go!

the happy elf -- if you're a harry connick, jr. fan, then this is the holiday movie for you. sweet, fun and an ample dose of crooning mr. connick -- this will put you right in the holiday spirit!

much more to come...
